DELTACAST ELITE Synthetic Polyester Casting Tape: Lightweight & Strong Immobilization

DELTACAST ELITE Synthetic Polyester Casting Tape, measuring 5cm x 3.6m in a light blue hue, provides reliable and comfortable immobilization for fractures, sprains, and other orthopedic injuries.
Manufactured by BSN medical (part of Essity), this casting tape is engineered with a high-quality polyester substrate impregnated with a water-activated polyurethane resin, ensuring both strength and ease of application.
It is an excellent choice for creating casts that are lightweight, durable, and radiolucent, allowing for clear X-ray imaging without cast removal.

Benefits of Use

  • Superior Strength & Durability: Offers robust support while remaining lightweight, ensuring patient comfort and effective immobilization.
  • Radiolucent: Allows for excellent X-ray penetration, facilitating clear imaging without the need to remove the cast.
  • Highly Conformable: Adapts easily to body contours, providing a smooth, custom fit and reducing pressure points.
  • Breathable: The synthetic material promotes airflow, helping to reduce skin maceration and improve patient hygiene.
  • Water-Resistant: Once fully cured, the cast is resistant to water, allowing patients to shower with proper protection.
  • Smooth Finish: Provides a comfortable, non-irritating surface against clothing and skin.

How to Use

  1. Ensure patient's limb is clean, dry, and free of oils or lotions.
  2. Apply appropriate stockinette and padding to protect the skin and bony prominences.
  3. Wear protective gloves before handling the casting tape.
  4. Immerse the DELTACAST ELITE roll in water at room temperature (21-24°C) for 5-10 seconds, squeezing gently to ensure complete saturation.
  5. Remove from water and squeeze out any excess water.
  6. Begin wrapping the limb spirally, overlapping by approximately one-half to two-thirds the width of the tape.
  7. Mold the cast smoothly and gently to the anatomical contours, ensuring even pressure.
  8. Allow the cast to set. Initial setting occurs within 3-5 minutes. The cast will be weight-bearing in approximately 30 minutes and fully cured within 24 hours.

Caution & Warnings

  • Always use protective gloves during application as the resin is sticky before curing.
  • Ensure adequate padding is used to prevent pressure sores and skin irritation.
  • Monitor for signs of neurovascular compromise (e.g., numbness, tingling, excessive swelling, discoloration) after cast application and instruct the patient on when to seek medical attention.
  • Do not apply directly to open wounds or compromised skin.
  • Keep the casting tape dry and sealed in its foil pouch until ready for immediate use.
  • Application should be performed by a trained healthcare professional.
