Hepavir 1 mg film-coated tablets are an antiviral medication containing Entecavir, prescribed for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Manufactured by Hikma Pharmaceuticals, these tablets help reduce viral load and improve liver function. It is a prescription-only medicine crucial for managing Hepatitis B and preventing progression to more severe liver diseases.

Product Overview

Hepavir 1 mg film-coated tablets, containing the active ingredient Entecavir, are a vital antiviral medication produced by Hikma Pharmaceuticals.

This medication is specifically prescribed for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and above who have compensated liver disease, evidence of active viral replication, persistently elevated blood alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels, and histological evidence of active inflammation and/or fibrosis.

Entecavir works by interfering with the replication cycle of the Hepatitis B virus, thereby reducing the amount of virus in the body and helping to improve liver function.

It is a crucial part of managing chronic Hepatitis B to prevent its progression to more severe liver diseases such as cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Benefits of Use

  • Highly effective in reducing the Hepatitis B viral load in the body.
  • Helps improve liver function and reduce inflammation in patients with chronic Hepatitis B.
  • Can prevent the progression of liver diseases, including cirrhosis and liver cancer, with long-term treatment.
  • Convenient once-daily dosing as a film-coated tablet.
  • Manufactured by Hikma Pharmaceuticals, ensuring quality and reliability.

How to Use

Always follow your doctor's instructions and the directions on the prescription label carefully. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

  1. Take one Hepavir 1 mg film-coated tablet once daily.
  2. It is generally recommended to take Hepavir on an empty stomach (at least two hours before a meal and two hours after the next meal).
  3. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet.
  4. Do not stop taking Hepavir without consulting your doctor, as this may worsen your Hepatitis B infection.
  5. Regular blood tests will be required to monitor the effectiveness of your treatment and liver function.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Hepavir is not a cure for Hepatitis B and may not prevent you from spreading the Hepatitis B virus to others.
  • Patients should be tested for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection before starting Hepavir. If you are HIV positive, Hepavir should not be used without receiving antiretroviral treatment for HIV, as this may lead to HIV resistance.
  • Severe acute exacerbations of Hepatitis B (flares) have been reported in patients who have discontinued anti-Hepatitis B therapy, including Hepavir. Close monitoring of liver function is recommended.
  • Lactic acidosis and severe hepatomegaly with steatosis, including fatal cases, have been reported with the use of nucleoside analogues, including Entecavir.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor immediately.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
