How to Use
- Prepare the patient's skin and apply appropriate padding (stockinette and cast padding) over the affected area to protect the skin and bony prominences.
- Open the Durocast bandage package and immerse the bandage in water at room temperature (20-25°C) for approximately 5-10 seconds, squeezing gently to ensure complete saturation.
- Remove excess water by squeezing the bandage firmly.
- Apply the bandage immediately, molding it smoothly to the contours of the limb. Overlap each layer by one-half to two-thirds of the bandage width.
- The cast will begin to set in approximately 3-5 minutes. Continue molding until the cast is firm.
- Allow the cast to fully cure (typically 20-30 minutes for initial strength, and 24 hours for full weight-bearing strength) before patient discharge.
- Trim the edges of the cast for patient comfort and to prevent pressure points.
Caution & Warnings
- For external use only. Professional medical supervision is required for application and removal.
- Avoid contact with eyes and prolonged contact with skin during application, as the resin can be irritating. Use gloves.
- Ensure adequate ventilation during application to minimize exposure to fumes.
- Do not apply too tightly, as this can impede circulation. Regularly check for signs of neurovascular compromise (e.g., numbness, tingling, coldness, swelling).
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
