How to Use
1. Ensure the patient is in a comfortable, semi-Fowler's position.
2. Measure the required length of insertion from the tip of the nose to the earlobe, then down to the xiphoid process.
3. Lubricate the distal end of the tube with a water-soluble lubricant.
4. Gently insert the tube through the chosen nostril (or orally if indicated), guiding it towards the pharynx.
5. Instruct the patient to swallow as the tube advances to facilitate passage into the esophagus.
6. Continue advancing until the predetermined length is reached.
7. Verify correct placement by aspirating gastric contents, injecting air and auscultating over the stomach, or preferably, by X-ray confirmation due to the radio-opaque line.
8. Secure the tube in place with medical tape.
9. Connect to the appropriate feeding system, syringe, or suction device as per medical instructions.
