VEMLIDY 25mg film-coated tablets contain Tenofovir Alafenamide, an antiviral medication used to treat chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. This prescribed medication is suitable for adults and adolescents with compensated liver disease, effectively reducing viral load and protecting the liver. It offers an improved safety profile for long-term management of Hepatitis B.

Product Overview

VEMLIDY 25mg Film-Coated Tablets are a crucial medication for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Developed by Gilead Sciences, this advanced antiviral therapy offers an effective and generally well-tolerated option for managing Hepatitis B. Each tablet contains Tenofovir Alafenamide, a highly potent active ingredient designed to suppress the Hepatitis B virus. It is specifically indicated for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older with compensated liver disease. This medication helps reduce the viral load, thereby minimizing the risk of liver damage and related complications.

Benefits of Use

VEMLIDY provides significant therapeutic advantages for individuals living with chronic Hepatitis B. It effectively suppresses the Hepatitis B virus, leading to a reduction in HBV DNA levels. The active ingredient, Tenofovir Alafenamide, has demonstrated an improved renal and bone safety profile compared to earlier generations of Tenofovir. This makes VEMLIDY a suitable long-term treatment option for many patients. Continuous use helps protect the liver from further damage caused by chronic infection.

How to Use

To ensure maximum effectiveness and safety, follow these instructions carefully:

  1. Take one VEMLIDY 25mg tablet by mouth once daily.
  2. Always take the tablet with food to enhance absorption.
  3. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or split it.
  4. Take the medication at approximately the same time each day to maintain consistent drug levels.
  5. Continue treatment as directed by your healthcare provider, even if you feel better.
  6. Do not stop taking VEMLIDY without consulting your doctor, as this could lead to a severe worsening of Hepatitis B.

Cautions & Warnings

Please be aware of the following important considerations before and during treatment with VEMLIDY:

  • Severe Acute Exacerbation of Hepatitis B: Discontinuation of anti-Hepatitis B therapy, including VEMLIDY, may lead to severe acute exacerbations of Hepatitis B. Your doctor will closely monitor your liver function for several months after stopping treatment.
  • Renal Impairment: New onset or worsening renal impairment has been reported. Regular monitoring of renal function is recommended.
  • Lactic Acidosis / Severe Hepatomegaly: Rare but serious cases of lactic acidosis with hepatomegaly and steatosis have occurred with nucleoside analogs. Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms develop.
  • Drug Interactions: VEMLIDY can interact with other medications. Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal supplements you are taking.
  • HIV Co-infection: All patients should be tested for HIV infection before or at the start of VEMLIDY. VEMLIDY alone is not a complete treatment regimen for HIV.
  • Liver Disease: Not recommended for patients with decompensated liver disease.
  • Storage: Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Store in the original bottle below 30°C (86°F) to protect from moisture.
