The Short Term Hemodialysis Catheter (12 Fr x 200mm) is a curved, double-lumen medical device for temporary vascular access in acute hemodialysis. It ensures efficient blood flow for renal support and is made from biocompatible materials. Ideal for immediate and reliable dialysis treatment when permanent access is not available or has failed.

Short Term Hemodialysis Catheter Curved Double Lumen 12 Fr x 200mm

The Short Term Hemodialysis Catheter is a specialized medical device designed to provide temporary vascular access for hemodialysis and hemofiltration procedures. It is crucial for patients requiring acute or short-term renal support when native fistulas or grafts are not yet mature or have failed. This particular catheter features a curved design and a double lumen, ensuring efficient and simultaneous blood flow for arterial withdrawal and venous return during dialysis sessions.

Crafted from medical-grade materials, the catheter is engineered for biocompatibility and optimal performance. Its 12 French diameter (Fr) provides a large lumen size for high flow rates, while the 200mm length is suitable for central venous insertion, commonly in the internal jugular, subclavian, or femoral veins. The curved shape of the catheter is designed to reduce kinking, improve patient comfort, and facilitate optimal positioning within the vessel.

Benefits of Use

  • Provides immediate, reliable vascular access for acute hemodialysis needs.
  • Double lumen design allows for simultaneous arterial and venous access, optimizing dialysis efficiency.
  • Curved catheter shaft enhances patient comfort and minimizes vessel wall irritation.
  • Minimizes recirculation, ensuring effective dialysis treatment.
  • Made from biocompatible material for reduced risk of adverse reactions.
  • Designed for high flow rates essential for efficient blood purification.

How to Use

The insertion of a hemodialysis catheter is a medical procedure that must be performed by a trained healthcare professional under strict aseptic conditions. The general steps include:

  1. Prepare the insertion site with an appropriate antiseptic solution and drape the area sterilely.
  2. Administer local anesthetic to the skin and subcutaneous tissue at the chosen insertion site (e.g., internal jugular vein).
  3. Using ultrasound guidance, puncture the vein with the introducer needle and confirm blood flow.
  4. Insert the guidewire through the needle into the vein and advance it into the superior vena cava, confirming placement with fluoroscopy or X-ray.
  5. Remove the introducer needle, leaving the guidewire in place.
  6. Create a small skin incision at the guidewire entry point and dilate the tract using progressively larger dilators over the guidewire.
  7. Thread the curved double lumen catheter over the guidewire and advance it into the vein until the tip is in the desired central venous position.
  8. Remove the guidewire and secure the catheter to the skin using sutures or an appropriate securement device.
  9. Confirm catheter tip placement via chest X-ray.
  10. Flush each lumen with heparinized saline and apply a sterile dressing to the insertion site.

Caution & Warnings

  • This device is intended for single-use only. Do not resterilize or reuse.
  • Use by qualified medical professionals trained in central venous catheter insertion techniques.
  • Strict aseptic technique must be maintained during insertion and subsequent catheter care to prevent infection.
  • Potential risks include infection, thrombosis, hemorrhage, air embolism, cardiac arrhythmia, nerve damage, and vessel perforation.
  • Do not use if the sterile barrier packaging is damaged or compromised.
  • Inspect the catheter for any damage before use.
  • Catheter kinking or malposition can lead to inadequate flow rates and compromised dialysis.
  • Ensure proper catheter care and locking procedures to prevent lumen occlusion and infection.

Ingredients / Materials

Not applicable as this is a medical device. The catheter is typically constructed from high-quality, biocompatible materials such as:

  • Medical-grade Polyurethane or Silicone: Provides flexibility, strength, and biocompatibility.
  • Radiopaque materials: Incorporated into the catheter for clear visibility under fluoroscopy or X-ray.
  • Clamps and hubs: Made from durable plastic materials.
