The Short Term Hemodialysis Catheter is a curved, triple lumen medical device designed for temporary vascular access in patients requiring acute hemodialysis or other extracorporeal therapies. With a 12 French diameter and 20 cm length, it provides efficient and reliable access for multiple functions simultaneously. It is intended for professional medical use to optimize patient care and reduce the need for multiple access points.
Product Description
The Short Term Hemodialysis Catheter is a specialized medical device designed for temporary vascular access in patients requiring acute hemodialysis, hemofiltration, or apheresis.
This curved, triple lumen catheter offers efficient and reliable access for various therapeutic procedures.
Its 12 French diameter and 20 cm length make it suitable for central venous insertion, typically in the jugular or subclavian vein, by trained healthcare professionals.
The triple lumen design allows for simultaneous infusion, blood sampling, and dialysis, optimizing patient care and reducing the need for multiple access points.
It is manufactured from biocompatible materials, ensuring patient safety and minimizing tissue irritation.
Benefits of Use
- Provides immediate, reliable short-term vascular access for hemodialysis and other extracorporeal therapies.
- Triple lumen design facilitates multiple simultaneous functions: dialysis, intravenous fluid administration, and blood sampling.
- Curved catheter design may enhance patient comfort and ease of insertion in certain anatomical approaches.
- Made from biocompatible materials for reduced risk of adverse reactions.
- Sterile packaging ensures aseptic application and reduces risk of infection.
How to Use
This device must only be inserted and managed by trained medical professionals in a sterile environment following hospital protocols and manufacturer's instructions for use.
- Patient Preparation: Position the patient appropriately and prepare the insertion site with an antiseptic solution according to institutional guidelines.
- Local Anesthesia: Administer local anesthetic to the insertion site.
- Vessel Access: Using ultrasound guidance and/or anatomical landmarks, access the target central vein (e.g., internal jugular or subclavian) with an introducer needle.
- Guidewire Insertion: Thread the guidewire through the needle into the vein.
- Dilator and Sheath Placement: Remove the needle, advance the dilator and sheath over the guidewire.
- Catheter Insertion: Remove the guidewire and dilator, then carefully insert the hemodialysis catheter through the sheath into the desired position.
- Confirmation and Securement: Confirm catheter tip placement via chest X-ray. Secure the catheter to the skin using sutures or an appropriate securement device.
- Patency Maintenance: Flush lumens with an appropriate locking solution (e.g., heparinized saline or citrate) as per protocol to maintain patency.
Caution & Warnings
- For single use only. Do not resterilize or reuse.
- Sterile unless package is opened or damaged. Inspect package integrity before use.
- Insertion and maintenance must be performed by qualified medical personnel.
- Risk of complications including infection, bleeding, thrombosis, pneumothorax, air embolism, and vessel perforation.
- Always confirm catheter tip placement radiographically after insertion.
- Do not force catheter during insertion, as this may cause vessel damage.
- Exercise caution to avoid arterial puncture during venipuncture.
- Patients with known hypersensitivity to materials used in the catheter should not use this device.
- Strict aseptic technique is critical during insertion, dressing changes, and all manipulations.
Ingredients / Materials
Typically constructed from advanced, biocompatible polyurethane or similar medical-grade polymers, designed for flexibility and durability within the vascular system. The catheter may include radiopaque elements for visibility under X-ray. It is free from natural rubber latex.
